The mixed-media series merges the experience of the spiritual inner migration characterising the journey within Sufism and the external physical migration of Afghans trying to reach the UK through France, providing a playful yet complicated story that simultaneously references the mythology of unicorns and the way in which they symbolise not only hope, but the ability to move between worlds.

Commodified, 2014
One undeniable facet of war and conflict is the economy it promotes and generates. Whether speaking of the military-industrial complex or the aid and development sectors, there is a significant economical contribution that ends up benefitting many of the primary stakeholders in any given conflict. War and conflict have become commodified, but what are we “selling” when we sell war paraphernalia? - Understanding? History? Empathy/Sympathy? Ideas? Loyalties? Etc.? Commodified explores questions about how we approach the commodification of conflict through merchandise, such as - How do we decide what kind of items are produced for sale? What kind of messages, if any, do we want to convey through those items? Does the commodification of conflict make people more or less aware of war’s/conflict’s consequences?
The work was a commissioned installation at the Imperial War Museum-North in Manchester, UK, serving as a counter-narrative to the items actually being sold a few meters away in the museum's gift shop. The below are a few of its remains.

A series of drawings exploring the heavier hand of institutionalised religion, highlighting eight of Allah’s 99 names in calligraphic form inside of poppy bulbs. The number 8 representing infinity as a symbol of God and the poppies referencing Marx’s claim of religion being the opiate of the masses (as well as Afghanistan’s position as the largest poppy producer in the world).
